Shenzhen Sparks a Mozart Craze: Music Students from Across the Country Gather at Shenzhen Yin’ Ao Arts Academy

Many music students feel that despite years of study, they still cannot fully grasp or deeply understand the essence of their craft. This is not due to a lack of talent or passion for music, but rather because the environment in which we live is far removed from the era when classical musicians created their works. This sense of distance might prevent us from truly delving into the core of art, creating an overly distant feeling. If one does not visit the birthplace of classical music and walk the paths where great composers lived and created, what other ways are there to more vividly and dynamically understand and interpret classical music?

The "Searching for Mozart - Genius Artist Program" 2024 Mozart Music Camp offers immersive masterclasses led by two world-class musicians from the Mozarteum University of Salzburg, Austria - chamber music pianist Gereon Kleiner and violinist Daniel Aune. They host a week-long music masterclass for students from all over the country. This week is not only about musical exchange but also cultural collision. From one-on-one violin and piano master experience classes to discussions on career planning in music, to campus concerts and violin competition discussion sessions, each activity showcases an ultimate pursuit of music. These diverse courses and activities not only allow students to closely experience the elegance of music masters but also provide opportunities to deeply understand the connotation and artistic charm of music.

On the evening of September 1st, an international master music appreciation session was held in the Stage Piano Garden of Shenzhen Concert Hall. The two world-class musicians performed alongside students from Shenzhen Yin’Ao International Arts Academy, presenting a series of famous classical music pieces. This concert not only enriched the city's cultural life and promoted the popularization and dissemination of culture and arts but also enhanced the students' international perspective and artistic cultivation. It was an important event for artistic exchange and cultural heritage between Shenzhen and Salzburg.

The concert selection included classics by Kreisler, Mozart, Massenet, Schubert, Bach, and other renowned classical musicians. Among them, "Prelude and Allegro" is a piece written for solo violin by Austrian violinist Fritz Kreisler. Daniel Auner's performance not only demonstrated his deep understanding of violin playing techniques but also showcased his dramatic tension during the performance. Additionally, "The Joy and Sorrow of Love" are two violin pieces created by violinist and composer Kreisler in the style of old Viennese folk songs, where both music masters displayed the technicality and expressiveness of violin playing.

benefited from this master concert. The school invited violinist Daniel Auner to Shenzhen, allowing her to gain a deeper understanding of the art of the violin and receive guidance in musical styles and professional techniques. "The school organizes several domestic and international master events every year, providing us with a platform for learning and exchange. These opportunities are extremely valuable." Mike, a media studies student, also mentioned that participating in the school's annual international exchange activities has been very rewarding. "Moreover, the school's BTEC curriculum system offers us more choices. We not only study theoretical knowledge but also acquire many skills and gain work experience through numerous practical activities, which are beneficial for our future professional development."

As international school students or students of Gao Kao oriented-high school, participating in various practice projects organized by prestigious schools on a regular basis is essential for enhancing personal background and professional skills as part of the college application process. Gaining real insights through practical experiences, broadening horizons, and improving self-awareness and aesthetic abilities are often more important than practicing in isolation.
